Allan Heynen started his career at BDO in 1986. He completed his articles and qualified as a CA (SA) in 1990. In 1991 Allan completed his ILPA exams and was admitted as a member of the institute (now known as the Financial Planning Institute - FPI).

In 1991 Allan was seconded to BDO Binder Hamlyn in London where he worked for 6 months. On his return to SA, Allan joined the SA Revenue Services where he spent two years in lieu of the then National Service. During this time Allan was instrumental in assisting with the implementation of the new VAT Act, conducting seminars and assisting the public with law interpretation. In his second year with SARS he was seconded to the Finance Minister's Tax Advisory committee where he served as secretary to the Minister's Tax Advisory Committee.

In 1993 Allan rejoined BDO and was admitted as tax partner in the Pretoria office. Allan's keen interest in investment and financial planning matters led him to establishing the financial planning division within BDO in 1995. In 2004 the financial planning practices of BDO in Johannesburg and Pretoria were merged and Allan was appointed as head of this new company, a position he still holds today.

In addition to managing the operations of BDO Wealth Advisers (Pty) Ltd, Allan is responsible for managing relationships with high net worth clients. This includes all aspects of financial planning (Wills, trust planning and services, client cash management, tax planning and investments). He recently started and is the director of Celerity Investments.
